Days 1: Padang – Siberut – Mentawai Tribe
06:20 : Gather at Muaro Padang Harbor and purchase ferry tickets.
07:00 : Depart from Padang by fast ferry Mentawai Fast.
Transit : One-hour transit in Pokkai, the northern part of Siberut Island.
Lunch : Provided at a local restaurant during the transit stop.
Afternoon : Journey by car to an upriver village, followed trip in the river by canoe (pompong). After that, welking in the forest meet the Sikerei (shaman) Mentawai tribe.
Days 2, 3 & 4: Live Independently with the Mentawai Tribe & Experience Their Lifestyle
Live with a Mentawai family in the heart of the jungle, fully immersed in their daily life, gaining a deep understanding of their unique culture and relationship with nature.

Days 5: Leaving the Remote Village – Siberut Harbor – Return to Padang
Morning : Enjoy a final breakfast with the Mentawai tribe.
Return Trip : Begin your journey back to Muaro Siberut Harbor by car / canoe.
Final Preparations : At Muaro Siberut Harbor, lunch together, and preparations to return to Padang city and preparation for departure.
Departure : Depart from Siberut at 14:00 by fast ferry, and arrived in Padang city at 18:00. Trip-tour completed
IMPORTANT NOTES FOR VISITING THE MENTAWAI TRIBE
1. Preparation Before Departure
- Location : Siberut Island, Mentawai, West Sumatra Province, Indonesia. The main access route is via (Muaro Padang Port) by ferry / Mentawai Fast Boat ⇋ Siberut Island.
- Permits : You have permission to visit the traditional area (usually arranged by a local guide)
- Local Guide : It is mandatory to hire a local guide to help with communication with the Mentawai people.
2. What to bring when visiting the Mentawai tribe?
- Personal medicine, mosquito repellent, raincoat, flashlight, toiletris, light clothing, change of clothes for sleeping, towel, flips, hat or head covering, suncreen, thin sweter, copy of your passport, sunglasses, hiking shoes, and another personal needs.
- Power bank, notelbook (optional), plastic bag for elektronics protection and wet clothes because of the humid area.
- Money Cash : There are no ATM while you are on Siberut island (if you needs)
3. Etiquette and Manners in People Areas
- Greeting and Smiling : Greet locals with a warm smile; shake hands if they initiate it.

TRANSPORTATION PROCEDURES TO REACH THE MENTAWAI TRIBE ON SIBERUT ISLAND (GENERALLY FOR TOURISM OR VISITS TO MENTAWAI TRIBE COMMUTIES).
1. Travel to Padang (West Sumatra).
Padang is the main gateway to the Mentawai Islands.
- Flights from major cities in Indonesia to "Bandara Internasional Minangkabau (PDG)" near Padang (common routes: Jakarta, Medan, Kuala Lumpur, etc.).
- From the airport to "Pelabuhan Muaro Padang", take a taxi, ride-hailing service (Gojek/Grab), or local transport (approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on traffic).
Tips: Because ferries to Mentawai usually depart early in the morning, many travelers must stay one night in the Padang city, preferably near Muaro Padang Harbor, before continuing to the Mentawai Island because ferry depart in the morning.
2. From Padang → Siberut Island, Mentawai.
There are one main sea transportation from Padang → Siberut island.
a. Mentawai Fast Ferry (Fast Boat)
Departs from Pelabuhan Muaro Padang (Muaro Padang Harbor) → Pelabuhan Muaro Siberut (Muaro Siberut Harbor).
Departure Schedule From Padang:
- Tuesday & Saturday : Depart 07:00 AM, arrive around 1:30 PM (with a stop at Sikabaluan).
- Thursday : Depart 07:00 AM, arrive around 10:30 AM (direct to Siberut).
- Travel duration : Approximately 4 – 6 hours, depending on route and sea conditions.
- One-way ticket : Around IDR 350,000 – IDR 400,000 per person (additional charge for surfboards).
Return Schedule From Siberut Island:
- Tuesday & Saturday : Depart 2:30 pm, arrive around 7:00 PM
- Thursday : Depart 12:00 PM, arrive around 7:00 PM (with a stop at Sikabaluan).

This is the fastest and most comfortable option for traveling to Siberut Island, Mentawai.
3. After Arriving at Muara Siberut Port.
Once you arrive at Muara Siberut Harbor:
- Private car transfer is arranged by local guide to a small village (Kulukubuk).
- From there, transportation continues by long boat or traditional river boat (pompong) along inland rivers, which are commonly used by local communities to reach remote villages and Mentawai tribal settlements.
4. Tips & Important Notes.
- Bring sufficient personal supplies when traveling to inland areas, as facilities in some Mentawai villages are very limited.
- If your main purpose is to interact with or stay among the Mentawai Tribe, land, sea, and river transportation to interior villages is usually arranged by tour operators or local guides.
